Window Tinting: A Brief History

Have you ever noticed the windows on a skyscraper; that nice reflective quality on the glass? This is a brief history of where window tint came from, and how we still benefit from it today.

Window Tinting: A Brief History

Window tinting in the US goes back about 50 years to the 1960s and 70s when the first window films were being implemented in automotive glass. The aim was to make them as transparent as possible, however a demand for more colored films began to increase. As the Disco era was at its peak in the late 1970s, limousines had incorporated a dark tint, which added to the privacy of the passengers.

By the 1980s many states had to incorporate their own laws for vehicle window tinting, due to increased accidents. The dark windows were not only difficult to see into, but equally difficult to see out of! It wasn’t until the 1990s that we began to see more advanced types of film that are popular today.

Window film, throughout it’s 50 year history, continues to advance and improve. As folks began to see the benefits of tint in automobiles, they began to utilize it in residential and commercial applications. Today we have window film that protects from UV rays, and even prevents the breakage of glass into a thousand, tiny pieces. Even the breakage of glass altogether! Window tinting continues making history!

Today homeowners can experience a plethora of benefits from window tinting. They range from protection from break ins from intruders, protection from various weather elements, to cutting your cooling bill! Why should I hire a professional?

We all know summers in Oklahoma can be hotter than… a snowball in a dryer! There is always that one room with all the windows, and all the sun. Should you cut costs and just tint it yourself, or hire a professional?

Why should I hire a professional?

If you are a handy person, you might be anxious to tint you windows yourself. Sometimes, it can be fun to tackle projects you’ve never attempted, if you love the challenge. However, tinting windows isn’t  a recommended DIY project. Here a few of the issues that you can run into by attempting this project on your own.

  • Proper tools – Watching some online videos can make many projects look simple, but they never show the hours of practice. Most of the kits you buy require you to cut the film to the exact size, which is extremely difficult without professional tools. DIY kits can only be used once, so if you make a mistake, you will have to buy another kit.
  • Dirt – If you’ve ever swept a floor, you realize how difficult it is to remove 100% of the dirt line. If just one speck of dust is trapped under the tint, in can ruin the entire installation. This can leave wrinkles and bubbles in the film, compromising it’s appearance and functionality.
  • You get what you pay for – Event though these kits are much cheaper upfront, you will get what you pay for. You wouldn’t hire a plumber who has never lit a pilot light to fix gas leak would you? If we want a professional result, we need to hire a professional!

So if you’re looking at installing some window tint, the professionals at FormulaOne have the knowledge and skill to get the job done right.

A Breakfast Nook Transformation With Window Tinting

Maintaining The Beautiful View With Window Tinting

Sometimes, people fall in love with a space, such as a beautiful breakfast nook, because the view to the outside world is outstanding. That doesn’t mean; however, that they always want to feel the harsh sun beating down on their backs or that the people sitting opposite them will desire to squint their eyes to avoid being blinded. What’s a person to do if they don’t want to obstruct their beautiful view? You may be surprised by the wonderful transformation from bare glass windows to glass covered in window tinting!

Today, our team at FormulaOne by AES wanted to highlight an idea for a project involving a breakfast nook just like the one in the picture. The wonderful part about many of our residential window tinting films is that they reduce heat by 34% to 83%. Additionally, the film helps to reduce glare from the sun and reducing the fading of furniture inside. This is all possible without having a mirrored or dark look to the film.

Imagine the difference from sitting in a place with an overload of sunlight to suddenly being able to enjoy sitting down in that breakfast nook. When the window tinting is applied the space becomes a comfortable spot that people would actually want to gather in for dining purposes. The film still would allow for plenty of sunlight to enter the space, but without the harmful ultraviolet rays.

No matter which room you would like to transform, window tinting makes a great choice for doing so as there are options for many different design styles! If you have a breakfast nook, a kitchen window, or another place in your home that you’d like to makeover we’d be happy to help. You can call FormulaOne by AES at 405-513-6400 to get started on your next project.

Window Tinting Is Perfect For The Pool House

Summertime Custom Window Tinting Project

Having a swimming pool in your own backyard sure is a blessing and by adding a pool house to your property you’ve not only increased the value of your home, but you’ve made it possible to entertain more guests or make your pool time even better. Part of the beauty of a pool house is being able to enjoy sitting in the shade by the pool, but sometimes guests will need a little more privacy or you’ll desire less glare from the sunlight streaming in on your face. Window tinting is a very perfect solution for a pool house!

The pool house is a great way to provide a comfortable changing room, nearby bathroom, and a relaxing place to rest. Imagine that after you’ve build up an appetite from swimming you could rest in the pool house with enough light to see outside, meanwhile keeping the harsh ultraviolet rays from the sun from beating down on you.

Furthermore, you could choose to sit at the table inside, eat a snack, and look out over the sparkling water of the pool. Perhaps, you’d like to just sit inside and have a chat without the glare from the sunlight blinding you. In many ways, window tinting film makes it possible to truly feel a sense of calm.

Not only is the window tinting functional at keeping people safe from UV rays, but it also helps to keep your beloved furniture, carpet, flooring, and other interior decorations from fading. The tint will truly transform any ordinary pool house into a cozy place to escape.

Science Museum Oklahoma- Blue Window Tinting Film

The Long-Lasting Decorative Window Tinting At Science Museum Oklahoma

Way Back Wednesday: Remembering A Past Window Tinting Project

It may be an understatement to say that many people’s lives have been enriched by visiting the Science Museum Oklahoma (possibly remembered by some as the Omniplex). For generations people have marveled at the scientific wonders and new discoveries found inside. Taking a look at the museum’s history you will learn that the building itself has changed quite a bit as it has gone through many transformations since 1958. Of course, a building isn’t just about being inviting on the inside, because it’s the outside décor that has to almost subconsciously draw someone in. That’s where decorative window tinting came into play at the end of February, 2016.

FormulaOne by AES had the privilege and honor of being hired last year to apply some decorative window tinting film to the many glass pieces that now make up the sidewalk’s awning outside of the Science Museum Oklahoma. Each piece of film was carefully measured, cut, and individually applied to each rectangularly shaped piece of glass. The unique blue color of the film was meant to mimic a sort of stained glass, but at a fraction of the cost!

Now, over one year later visitors can still see the results of our handy work sticking on strong. The durable, decorative window tinting is certainly a long-lasting film that is still doing its job of providing protection from the sun’s heat, glare, and Ultraviolet Radiation. If you’ve never really taken the time to notice this film before, now you know why it’s there. If it’s been a while since your last visit, next time you’re out at the Science Museum Oklahoma look up at the decorative window tinting on your way inside!

We love helping businesses achieve various looks with many different window tinting options. If you own a business and you’d like to get started with your own project that will be sure to last for years to come, feel free to contact FormulaOne by AES at 405-513-6400.

Legacy Grill Window Tinting

Legacy Grill’s Decorative Window Tinting Film

Restaurant Decorations With Window Tinting

Have you ever been to a restaurant and looked closely at their choice of décor? While you’re waiting to be seated or waiting for your food chances are you’ve glanced around. The fact is that many restaurants go to great lengths to make their spaces look elegant. Truthfully, many of those same restaurants also spend entirely too much capital getting the look they desire. Many of them may not realize that window tinting can be decorative as well as functional!

Our case in point today is Legacy Grill in OKC (formerly known as KD’s). They wanted something that looked as upscale as possible without having to replace all the glass already in existence. This is the beauty of decorative window tinting.

Of course, for this high-end, contemporary dining space, the restaurant owner didn’t want something cheap that wouldn’t hold up over a long period of time. After some thought on this, the project manager contacted FormulaOne by AES.

Our team members take pride in their work and we take time to listen and help choose the best solution for the windows to ensure a product that lives up to the FormulaOne standard. The meeting resulted in the FormulaOne by AES team coming out to place high-quality LLumar dusted crystal window tinting film onto the restaurant’s inside windows.

As you can imagine, the window tinting film was a fraction of the cost of having to take out every existing window and replace them with real dusted crystal glass. As an added bonus, the window tinting film is very durable and set to last for many years to come.

Each of our window tinting films are individually designed and meticulously crafted to fit perfectly to our customers unique specifications. If you’re looking to add versatile décor to your next custom window project, let us help make your window tinting dreams come true. Contact FormulaOne by AES at 405-513-6400!

Window Tinting- Valentine's Day

New Window Tinting For Valentine’s Day

Falling In Love With Window Tinting

Looking at the bigger picture of life, it’s safe to say that not everyone wants a box of chocolates or a bouquet of roses for Valentine’s Day. Perhaps, what the love of your life really wants is something a little more long-lasting, instead. Is that so wrong? While retailers love to push their traditional gifts upon you, we’d be willing to bet that most of you would be far more impressed with something that’s more meaningful. Window tinting is just one of those gifts that last for years to come and makes looking at and out of your windows so much better.

Imagine telling your significant other that you’re planning on dressing up your home with something as protective as window tinting. Ok, so they may look at you strangely at first and you may not suddenly become a modern version of Shakespeare right before their very eyes, but once you tell them the benefits they may change their minds. There is a perfectly wonderful reason to add window tinting film to your windows.

Our residential window tinting can help keep your carpet, your flooring, and your furniture from fading as a result of the sun’s harsh UV rays. If you want to be able to look outside of your windows without straining your eyes, our film is perfect for your house.

The custom film is hand crafted and the color finishes are made to order at FormulaOne by AES, therefore; you can get a design that’s truly unique to your own aesthetics. If you’re not sure where to begin we have a lot of options for window tinting to help you choose from, as well!

We love to help families find just what they’re looking for, especially around Valentine’s Day! So, rather than falling into the same old routine with your significant other this February, consider looking for new window tinting, instead.

If you need help finding the right style for you, our team is here to help you in any way we can. If you’re interested in setting up an appointment, please give FormulaOne by AES a call at 405-513-6400!
